Yoda on Dagobah and the Battle of the Heroes on Mustafar. I used the new version of the Obi-Wan LEGO minifigure from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series because it was the Obi-Wan minifigure that I had handy at the time. It’s a funny minifigure. Obi-Wan never looks this ginger in live action. The thing I love about these jelly cups is they’re so simple yet so effective. They were such lazy food creations, but I love the way they looked. It’s also worth noting that the platform that Vader and Obi-Wan are standing on is an Oreo, which they wouldn’t stay on without being glued down with vanilla essence. I won’t bother tagging any jelly related recipes, because whatever jelly powder you happen to buy will provide perfectly good instructions on the packet. Regarding chocolate mousse, I am quite partial to this recipe.
Making these jelly/mousse cups made me feel like a child playing, even more so than the LEGO decorated cupcakes I had previously made. In fact, it put me in mind of being a nine-year-old boy, inheriting bits of old polystyrene wrap from my parents. With the imagination that I possessed at the time, I looked at these bits of packaging and saw what could be a platform within a space station, or part of an exotic colosseum on the planet Geonosis.
When it came to actually making the edible contents of the cup, everything went perfectly smoothly, as you would likely suspect given that all I was doing was making jelly and scooping mousse over the top. However, difficulty struck when it got to adding the LEGO. My idea of using Oreos as platforms turned out to be difficult to achieve and the LEGO figures were falling off left right and centre (not great for the ones who found themselves standing on the fires of Mustafar). I eventually had the idea of calling in a rescue from the dessert cook’s best friend, the trusty bottle of vanilla essence. I was able to successfully use vanilla essence to glue the LEGO figures on to their Oreo platforms. I took pictures as quickly as possible in case the minifigures were ready to collapse almost immediately after they had been put into place. However, this was unnecessary, and they actually stayed put for a while.
